Do I need to order Recessed Valves or Flush valves?
In short, there’s no easy way to identify which cylinder head you require by year/model. The safest method is to remove the cylinder head and check if your pistons have valve reliefs or not.
- Recessed valve cylinder head = does not have valve reliefs in pistons (Exhaust: 103.5mm
Inlet: 103.4mm) - Flush valve cylinder head = does have valve reliefs in pistons (Exhaust: 104.25mm
Inlet: 104.25mm)

Great to deal with
Well organised
Great selection of parts with great quality. Ordered a replacement head from AMC, delivery was fast and undamaged.
I unfortunately had the cylinder head crack on my 1996 Toyota Hiace with the 1kz. Being in the US it is fairly difficult to source parts, especially a fully assembled cylinder head, because these Japanese turbo diesels were never sold stateside. I wanted to get the best replacement head that’s available which from what I read was a AMC branded cylinder head. Scouring the net trying to find anywhere that had this part in the US proved to be difficult. When I contacted the few places in the US that could source this part, they said it would either be months until the part would ship or they discontinued carrying the part in general. That’s when I started to look internationally to find this part and discovered HD Automotive. When I found out they carried the AMC replacement along with the gasket kit and bolts I was thrilled. I placed an order through them and was very impressed by the delivery time. From the time of order to the part being on my front porch, it took 7 days. Impressive! I would highly recommend anyone in the US to consider HD Automotive if they own a jdm turbo diesel and need these sort of parts.
