PDI Front Mount Intercooler Kit suitable for Toyota LandCruiser 80 Series 1FZ-FE Turbo
Built for turbocharged 1FZ-FE powered 80 Series LandCruisers, this PDI front mount intercooler kit suits the turbo sizes most commonly fitted to the 1FZ-FE (3576, 3582, 3584 or similar). It comes set up for a high mount 6Boost manifold, our HD Auto J-pipe high mount kit, or a low mount turbo, so choose your turbo setup and gearbox from the drop-down lists.
The core is the largest PDI can reasonably fit behind the 80 Series grille, and it has been shown to support well over 300rwkw on a turbo 1FZ-FE. The 2.5″ stainless pipework runs straight into the engine bay rather than through the wheel arches, and it works with the factory dual battery boxes.
🚗 Suitable for:
- Toyota LandCruiser 80 Series FZJ80 1FZ-FE 4.5L Turbo Petrol 1992-1998
📦 What’s Included:
- PDI bar and plate intercooler core – 585 x 300 x 76mm
- Polished 2.5″ stainless steel intercooler pipework
- Heavy duty silicone elbows and joiners
- Breeze Aero clamps
- Replacement bonnet support bracket and bonnet latch, which also supports the bottom of the intercooler
- Intercooler mounting brackets and bolts
- Custom inlet manifold adaptor
- Instruction guide
- Transmission cooler (12 plate, 585 x 150 x 19mm) with custom brackets, when the Auto option is selected. No transmission cooler is included with the Manual option
🛠️ Fitment Details:
- The bull bar can stay fitted during installation
- Remove the battery boxes, grille, headlight surrounds and the metal panel below the grille
- A 3″ hole is drilled on each side from the front into the engine bay, then painted and finished with pinch weld
- Pipework routes under the batteries on each side. On the passenger side the brake line support bracket is moved so the pipe sits just inside the top radiator hose outlet
- The lower metal panel can have a couple of long slots cut into it for more airflow
- Tools needed: normal spanners and sockets, a 3″ hole saw, paint for the cut edges, and metal snips for trimming the lower panel
⚙️ Why Choose This:
- Front mount placement gets the coolest air available. The core sits behind the grille away from engine heat, so it cools down faster than any top mount setup
- 2.5″ pipework throughout, so the piping doesn’t become a flow restriction
- Pipes stay out of the wheel arches, keeping them away from sticks and rocks thrown up off the track
- Bar and plate construction for durability in rough conditions
- Heavy duty silicone and Breeze Aero clamps seal better than standard screw type clamps and most T-bolt styles
🌡️ Auto Transmission Cooler (Auto Option):
- The Auto option includes a Canadian made transmission cooler, mounted in front of the intercooler on custom brackets inside the grille
- It sits in front so the transmission always gets cool air. Transmission life depends heavily on how cool it runs
- Once the torque converter locks up, generally above 60-70km/h, very little oil flows through the cooler, so it has almost no effect on intercooler efficiency at cruising speed
- Customers have reported slightly cooler transmission temps after fitting the kit
❓ FAQs:
Q: Which turbo setups does this suit?
A: It suits 3576, 3582 and 3584 size turbos, or similar, in a high mount 6Boost, high mount J-pipe or low mount setup. Select yours from the drop-down list so the pipework is supplied to match.
Q: Do I have to remove my bull bar?
A: No. The bull bar can stay fitted while the kit goes in.
Q: Will it work with my dual battery setup?
A: Yes. The kit is designed to work with the factory dual battery boxes, with the pipework running underneath them.
Q: Can the transmission cooler go behind the intercooler instead?
A: We put it in front to give the transmission the best chance of a long life. Once the converter is locked up it has very little effect on intercooler performance, and a cooked transmission costs far more than a small loss of intercooler efficiency.
Q: Will large spotlights affect it?
A: Owners running spotlights still rate this kit highly for inlet air temps. A front mount still gets far better airflow than a bonnet scoop, which bull bars and lights can disrupt.
