PDI Front mount Intercooler Kit suitable for Isuzu D-MAX / MU-X 2012-2020
Upgrade your RG D-MAX or MU-X’s restrictive stock intercooler to a massive, high-flow solution—optimised for towing, off-road work, and repeatable performance.
🚗 Suitable for:
- Isuzu D-MAX 4JJ1 3.0L turbo diesel (2012–2016 non-DPF Model & 2016–2020 DPF Model)
- Isuzu MU-X 4JJ1 3.0L turbo diesel (2013–2020)
🔥 Why Upgrade Your Intercooler?
The stock RG intercooler is limited by a narrow core and restrictive end tanks, causing higher intake temps under load. Our bar-and-plate core measures 680 × 280 × 76 mm, fitting on factory mounts without blocking condenser or radiator flow—so you get significantly cooler, denser air even when towing or crawling.
📦 What’s in the kit:
- 680 × 280 × 76 mm bar-and-plate core with full-cast alloy end tanks
- Mandrel-bent 2.5” (63 mm) stainless-steel piping (one per side)
- 5-ply silicone joiners with USA-made Breeze clamps
- Inlet-pressure sensor fitting integrated into the cold-side pipe
- Mounting brackets & hardware for factory mount points
🛠️ Fitment Details:
- Factory-mount compatibility: Uses existing mounts—no custom brackets
- Winch-compatible design: sits behind the centre support bracket
- Width optimised: Core as wide as possible without blocking condenser/radiator
- Simplified piping: Replaces both stock flex pipes with single stainless runs, reducing rub points
- Transmission cooler: Auto kit adds a driver-side cooler for heavy-towing applications
📈 Performance Benefits:
- Higher flow capacity: 63 mm outlets reduce pressure drop vs stock
- Better heat dissipation: Large bar-and-plate design minimises intake temperatures
- Enhanced torque: Cooler, denser air for stronger mid-range pull
- Consistent results: Maintains cooling on repeated runs and in hot climates
- Ideal for towing & off-road: Keeps EGTs down under sustained load
❄️Auto Transmission cooler:
- Highly efficient cooler
- Single piece zinc plated steel mounting bracket
- Positioned on the drivers side to prevent heat being placed back into the air on the cold side of the intercooler
- Additionally the oil lines are on the side (not the bottom) to prevent air locks within the transmission cooler.
🤔 Why we chose these parts:
- Bar-and-plate core for strength & thermal efficiency in harsh conditions
- Cast alloy end tanks for durability and seamless flow
- Stainless-steel piping for abrasion resistance over flex lines
- Silicone joiners & Breeze clamps for leak-free reliability
❓ Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Will this fit under my bull-bar and winch?
A: Yes—the core sits behind the centre support bracket and clears most setups.
Q: Do I need to upgrade the transmission cooler?
A: Optional — we offer a dedicated kit to mount a cooler on the driver’s side for improved intake temps under heavy towing.
Q: Where is the MAP sensor relocated?
A: The inlet air pressure sensor is mounted into the fitting on the inlet manifold pipe.
Q: Is installation straightforward?
A: Yes, can be done DIY. Uses factory mounts and replaces stock pipes. Basic mechanical skills are required.
Q: How much cooler will my intake air be?
A: Expect intake-charge temps to drop by 20–30 °C under load versus stock, depending on tune and conditions.
Q: Will this fit both DPF and non-DPF models?
A: Yes—kits available for 2012–2016 non-DPF and 2016–2020 DPF D-MAX, and 2017–2020 MU-X models.
✅ Why choose Performance Diesel Intercoolers (PDI)?
- This is the largest core you can fit (possible due to our custom end tanks) and still retain the factory grill and any bumper or bull bar option.
- Additionally the tapering in of the headlight/grill line is matched by the end tanks to complement the design of the front of the vehicle.
- We have supplied intercoolers to highly modified 4WD where the owner is pushing the engine limits and running upwards of 60psi.
- Our cores have proved to be able to deal with the abuse an addition to amazing the customers with inlet air being so close to ambient both on the dyno and during use on the road/track/strip.
