The factory part is strong and holds up to offroad use fairly well, but we do see a lot of failures from age and water ingress. The most common failure is rust over time on the rack itself, which roughens up the smooth surface and eats away at the oil seal. Using a lot of power steering fluid is an early sign of this.
❓ Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can I fit this myself?
A: Yes, if you’re comfortable with suspension work. We recommend getting a post-fit alignment.
Q: Do I need to top up fluid?
A: You will need to bleed or top up your power-steering system after installation.
Q: How will I know my old rack is worn?
A: The most obvious sign of a worn rack on the Hilux is power steering fluid being consumed (by leaking rack seals) this can be confirmed by checking the rack boots for an excessive amount of power steering fluid.
