It’s coming up to 20 years since Toyota released the 4.5L turbo diesel V8 1VD-FTV engine fitted to the 70 Series Toyota Landcruiser, and you know what the best thing about that is? The Reality
150HP and 340NM of torque at the wheels. That’s what you get for 4.5L of turbo diesel V8 in your 70 Series Toyota Landcruiser. That’s just the numbers too – we haven’t even discussed how it’s delivered. The reality is the out of the box tune in the 70 Series Toyota Landcruiser is flat. The way torque is calculated in the ECU means we are delivered an underwhelming ability to drive the vehicle from down low in the RPM range. The factory tune reaches a peak torque of 340NM from 1400RPM, and retains this right up to 3000RPM before dropping right off. FLAT. Underwhelming. Power output isn’t much better at 150HP.
The Potential
The unrealised performance increase in the Toyota Landcruiser 1VD engines is something that’s been recognized for a number of years. Advancements in our in house tuning methods has lead to us being able to safely achieve a torque increase of approximately 90%, delivering an average of 650NM at 1800RPM. The difference between standard torque output here is something that must experienced to truly appreciate. Horsepower is increased from 150HP to 220HP offering a 70HP gain over standard, allowing you to benefit from a 45% gain.

How It Works – Our 5 Step Process
- Step 1. From the moment you contact us, our goal is to deliver you a no compromise performance upgrade for your 70 Series Toyota Landcruiser. It all starts with a discussion – we want to know everything about how you utilize that Toyota Land Cruiser. Once booked in, we carry out a thorough inspection of your Toyota Landcruiser to ensure it is in suitable condition for dyno tuning and performance increases.
- Step 2. Once this has been established, we connect your vehicle to our in house testing equipment such as our Mainline dynamometer which carries out safe testing of your vehicles maximum output and measures critical information such as Air-fuel ratio, boost pressure, engine speed, engine load and more.
- Step 3. We simulate your driving conditions and carry out our initial baseline dyno testing. This allows us to measure your vehicle initial power and torque output.
- Step 4. The ECU Remap and Recalibration. Our qualified and trained technicians (Certified Master Tuners) begin adjusting specific parameters in your vehicles ECU to achieve your vehicles optimal performance.
- Step 5. Your vehicle is once again run on the dyno to measure the adjustments made to compare results against the original testing figures. Once the desirable result is met, we finalize the tuning process by carrying out testing in various road speed and RPM/Engine load conditions to ensure your mid-throttle and low-throttle engine load areas are optimal for the conditions you will be using your vehicle in. Because let’s be honest – you aren’t driving your Land Cruiser with your foot flat everywhere.
What is ECU Remapping?
In the Toyota Land Cruiser 70 Series & 200 Series the ECU calibration ID number is identified through communication software and specialist tuning tooling when connected to the vehicle via the OBDII plug, for example a 2019 70 Series Toyota Landcruiser may have a Calibration ID number of 360P9200. Once this is identified, our software engineers access that specific calibration number via editing software on a computer.
This software allows us to identify specific ‘Maps’ the manufacturer built into the ECU code. Once we have successfully identified our specific maps inside the ECU code, we are able to modify this data to allow us to achieve our optimal tuning result. This edited calibration file is then written back into the ECU, and the vehicle is tested on the dyno.
All of our tuning is carried out in house by certified and trained Master Tuners.
