How to install your new UFI Landcruiser Turbo!

How to install your new UFI Landcruiser Turbo!
First of all, congrats on your new purchase! Time to make some power 💪 This is a quick fitting guide on some common questions we are asked when it comes to fitting your brand new UFI turbocharger to the 1H Engine. Feel free to have a read through to help speed up the process of fitting up your new turbo to your Toyota Landcruiser!

These instructions are the same whether you have chosen a 16G, 18G, 21L or 23L size Turbocharger

  1. You will have to remove the manifold. The correct method involves assembling the Turbo/Manifold on the work bench
  2. Do not attempt to rotate the wastegate at any point. It is in the correct spot.
  3. You may have to use a wooden hammer to move the hard-line heater pipe just slightly out of the way. These can be pressed in at all sorts of different angles depending on your engine build, some will need more, some will need none.
  4. Either loop, or blank off (using part number DBC10 – Dayco) the water lines to the original turbocharger.
  5. We recommend replacing the manifold studs and nuts at the same time as they are common to fatigue and snap with age. We offer Genuine Toyota replacements in store.
  6. We recommend using a multi-layered steel exhaust manifold gasket. The 1HZ and 1HD-T gaskets are the same. The 1HD-FT and FTE gaskets are also the same.
  7. Fit the turbo to the manifold outside of the car on the bench.
  8. Fit the new oil feed hose before you fit the manifold.
  9. Replace your oil filter and oil at the same time as any oil contaminants from a failed or blown turbo will damage your new turbo.
  10. If you have a 1HZ, 1HD-T or 1HD-FT, unplug your fuel injection pump power wire (white plug with three wires going to it), and crank your engine over until you see a clean stream of oil coming out from your newly fitted oil hose. This will allow you to prime your oil system ready for your new turbocharger to prevent damage.
  11. If you have a 1HD-FTE, unplug your spill driver on the passenger side of your guard and carry out the same procedure above.
  12. Ensure there is a clear pathway for your oil drain.
  13. If you have a 1HZ with an aftermarket oil drain in the sump, ensure it is no more than two figure widths below the top of the sump and is 14MM or larger hose. This will prevent a backflow of oil and prevent damage to your new turbocharger.
  14. If you have a factory turbo engine, the new oil hose supplied will suit the factory drain positioning and will fit slightly loose on the turbocharger drain side and slightly tighter than normal on the block side. Just tighten it up, this is nothing to be concerned about as this is not pressurised. It is a low-pressure drain.
  15. The inlet is 4” on a UFI turbo. If you have a stock airbox on a HDJ100 or HDJ79, we offer plug and play inlet pipes.
  16. If you have an 80 Series, you may need to make your own induction pipe to suit whatever airbox you may have.
