- Toyota LandCruiser 78 Series GDJ78 2.8L 1GD-FTV 2023+
- Toyota LandCruiser 76 Series GDJ76 2.8L 1GD-FTV 2023+
- Made for the facelift front end. For the 4.5L V8, see our PDI VDJ70 Series Front Mount Intercooler Kit.
The 2.8L GDJ70 Series leaves the factory with a small water-to-air intercooler. This PDI kit replaces it with a large bar and plate front mount core that sits behind the grille in the coldest air. PDI have seen it hold low intake temperatures over repeated dyno runs, so the engine keeps its peak torque when it’s loaded up towing, touring or climbing.
🔥 Why Front Mount?🧊
- PDI’s Mk3 bar and plate core runs the full 700mm width, with custom end tanks and 3″ outlets that pass beside the headlights into the engine bay.
- 2.5″ stainless steel pipework, with nothing routed through the wheel arches where sticks and rocks can damage it.
- Short, simple plumbing to the intercooler on the GDJ79.
- The core sits close to the condenser, so the engine fan pulls air through it at low speed as well.
- Built for tuned engines. PDI designed the Mk3 core for builds making more than 300kW at the wheels.
- In PDI’s testing, the drop in intake air temperature after the intercooler was three times greater than the best aftermarket top mount, and EGTs came down by up to 100°C under load.
📦 What’s in the Kit:
- PDI Mk3 bar and plate intercooler core with custom end tanks
- Polished 2.5″ stainless steel pipework
- Heavy duty silicone joiners
- Stainless hose clamps
- Mounting brackets and hardware
- Radar bracket: included when you select “Radar Bracket Required”
🧰 What You’ll Need:
- An ECU re-flash. After the intercooler goes in, the GDJ79 needs a re-flash to stop fault codes from the factory intercooler coolant system. Without it the ECU de-rates power.
- Normal spanners and sockets.
- Tools to cut and grind the grille and lower painted panel.
🛠️ Installation Details:
- No cutting of the vehicle’s structure. Only the grille and the lower painted panel are cut and ground to make room.
- The kit doesn’t interfere with the front airbag sensors, so it suits the current model 70 Series.
- Works with any bullbar and winch. The whole core sits above the bumper and bullbar, out in the cool air.
- Works with factory dual battery setups.
- PDI have fitted this kit to several GDJ79s and deleted the codes linked to the factory intercooler coolant system.
📡 Radar Bracket:
- The facelift model has its adaptive cruise radar in the lower part of the grille.
- If you’re fitting a bullbar with driving lights, PDI recommend a bullbar that moves the radar into the bar. The radar keeps working and the intercooler goes in without a bracket. Choose “Not Required”.
- If the radar stays in the grille, choose “Required”. It mounts on a PDI bracket and sits further forward to clear the intercooler.

❓ FAQs:
Q: Do I need a tune after fitting?
A: Yes. The GDJ79 needs an ECU re-flash to stop the factory intercooler coolant system codes, which de-rate power.
Q: Do I need the radar bracket?
A: Only if your radar stays in the grille. If your bullbar moves the radar into the bar, select “Not Required”.
Q: Will it fit with my bullbar and winch?
A: Yes. It works with any bullbar and winch setup and doesn’t need cuts in the vehicle’s structure.
Q: Does this kit suit the V8?
A: This listing is for the 2.8L GDJ70 Series. For the 4.5L V8, see our PDI VDJ70 Series Front Mount Intercooler Kit.
