🔥 Why Add an Intercooler?
The stock 1HD-FTE in HDJ78/79 comes with no charge-cooler at all, so boost air runs straight from the turbo into the intake manifold at high temperatures. Hot intake air means less power, higher EGTs, especially when towing or on long climbs.

By fitting a PDI front-mount intercooler, you’ll see:

  • A Large drop in intake temps over factory
  • Lower EGTs, especially towing or under heavy load
  • The best possible performance when combined with performance upgrades

  • Bar-and-plate 610 × 320 × 76 mm core, tailored for narrow-nose chassis
  • Precision-bent stainless hot- and cold-side piping

  • Standard intake option: Retains factory crossover pipe (uses your OEM breather routing)

⚙️What about the Crossover delete option?

The PDI crossover-delete option swaps out your factory breather crossover for a neat, forward-facing alloy adapter—cleaning up inlet plumbing and providing dedicated ports for boost, IAT and MAP sensor. It looks great, however, in most 1HD-FTE applications it delivers negligible power gains. Installing the delete also removes key factory functions: EGR routing, smooth shutdown “butterfly” – the failsafe that stops the engine if it ever runs on its own fumes. Unless you’re chasing an ultra-tidy, ultra high performance build, keeping the stock crossover is usually the smarter choice.

Q: Will this fit under my bull-bar and winch?
A: Yes—core sits entirely above bumper/bar face, no cutting required. Some plastic-guard trim may help fitment on certain bars.

Q: Is tuning needed?
A: A tune is not required to drive the car after install.

Q: Is cutting or welding needed?

A: No welding; this is a mostly bolt-on kit. You will need to trim the front panel and grill to make room for the core.

Q: Can I install it myself?
A: Yes, if you’re confident with basic mechanical work. Otherwise, professional installation is recommended.

Q: How big of a temperature drop can I expect?
A: With no intercooler to start, you’ll see intake-charge temps drop by up to 50 °C under sustained loads—more if you’re coming from any other charge-cooler.
