Turbocharge a non-turbo TD42
This is a complete hot side kit to turbocharge the non-turbo TD42 in a Nissan Patrol GQ or GU. It bolts on. The manifold is a factory style low mount, so any off-the-shelf 3-inch exhaust made for the factory turbo layout will fit.
Which TD42 does it suit?
Every non-turbo TD42 in a Nissan Patrol GQ or GU. Wagon and ute, coil and leaf, early and late, manual and auto.
It doesn’t suit a TD42T or TD42Ti. Those already have a factory turbo.
What power will it make?

The UFI 16G is good for up to 200hp. It pairs with the factory injection pump or a UFI 11mm TD42 injector pump.
What’s in the kit
- UFI 16G turbo, with oil lines, nuts and hose clamps
- Radius Fabrications 3-inch dump pipe with an EGT bung, made for the factory manifold
- Factory style TD42 low mount exhaust manifold
- Exhaust manifold gasket set
- Exhaust manifold stud and nut kit
- T3 turbo gasket
- Turbo inlet flange stud kit (4 studs and 4 nuts)
- Oil drain fittings: an AN10 steel weld-on sump fitting and an AN10 90 degree push lock barb
The weld-on fitting needs to be welded into the sump.
What you’ll need to add
- A pipe from the turbo outlet to your intake or intercooler
- A pipe from the turbo’s 4-inch inlet to your airbox
- An exhaust. The 3-inch dump pipe suits most aftermarket 3-inch exhausts.
Recommended upgrades
- Injection pump. A UFI 11mm pump with a dyno tune gives the best result with this kit.
- Intercooler. The 16G works with or without one, but a front mount intercooler always gives the best result. PDI make kits for the GQ and the GU.
- Clutch. A heavy duty clutch is recommended, like the BRC 1000Nm TD42 clutch kit.
- Airbox. A high flow airbox is recommended.
FAQ
Do I need a tune?
Yes. The injection pump needs setting up on a dyno to make the power. A turbo with no extra fuel makes boost, not much power.
My TD42 already has a factory turbo. Is this the right kit?
No. For a TD42T or TD42Ti, you want the UFI TD42 turbo upgrade.
Do I need an intercooler?
Not to fit the kit. For the most power, run a front mount.
